Replies will automatically go to him. gents, per our various meetings at catalina, i have drafted a "theme" for the acceleration and storage ring part of our mutac presentation for your comment and, eventual, approval. after approval i shall get it out to the speakers for their guidance. note that i am assuming that we'll want to revise the acceleration and storage ring arrangements to reflect 20 GeV as top energy and to form a basis for revised costing. this will of course bring up the question: who will do this? we should have at least a provisional answer. perhaps one could get agreement in advance from cebaf to do the linac and rla lattices and fnal to do the storage ring? best, maury MUTAC 2000 Theme DRAFT*DRAFT*DRAFT Acceleration and Storage Ring Accomplishments 99/00 1. Reasonable lattices for post cooling linac and RLA's up to 50 GeV were found for 200 MHz operation. 2. It was determined that normal conducting RF for linac and RLA requires excessive RF power, making superconducting RF the natural choice. Klystrons needed for linac and RLA are within the current state of the art. 3. A storage ring lattice for 50 GeV using superconducting magnets has been worked out and the required magnets looked at for feasibility. The magnet requirements are well within the current state of the art. Plans 00/01 1. The desired parameters for the superconducting 200 MHz RF acceleration require demonstration. A development program for 200 MHz superconducting cavities has started. 2. In view of the finding that 20 GeV suffices for the neutrino energy, an appropriate arrangement for acceleration and storage for this energy will be worked out as part of Feasibility Study 2.
